Last year I released an episode featuring my friend Geoff Skellams, a talented player of ukulele and guitar who was feeling a little frustrated by his progress with learning Hawaiian slack key. He did get some lessons after that episode was recorded and they helped a bit, but this year the frustration seemed to be returning in a big way. Then in June, Geoff went to a week-long workshop in Hawaii which absolutely turned things around for him. His excitement was so infectious that I got him back on the show to tell me all about it.

Intro
Welcome to Ukulele Is The New Black. I’m Meredith Harper, and I love to play the ukulele. In this podcast I talk to ukulele players to find out why they play ukulele, what they love about it, and how it’s changed their lives.

Outro
In last year’s episode, Geoff played A.J. Leonard’s Dragonfly, a tricky instrumental piece which he played pretty well – but he’s improved since then, so I’ve included a more recent performance after the credits.

Ukulele is the New Black is produced by me, Meredith Harper. I wrote the theme tune and it was performed by me, Jasmine Fellows, Geoff Skellams and Jim Croft. Seb Carraro does the graphic design. Details of the workshop and a whole lot of other things mentioned by Geoff are in the show notes.
Episodes are released every second Monday and you can subscribe on Apple Podcasts or pretty much anywhere podcasts are found. Want to support the show? I’ve recently started a Patreon, where you can help me out financially. All patrons receive an exclusive Ukulele is the New Black green decal, and higher tiers get their names in the show notes of each episode, and you can even ask me to record a cover of the song of your choice. I recently recorded a cover of Nancy Sinatra’s Bang Bang for my Ukulele Legend supporter Linda Dodwell – if you want to hear it, just join up at any level to get access. If you can’t help me out financially, then you can write a review on Apple Podcasts or just tell your friends about it. I’ll be back in two weeks with a regular episode featuring one of my favourite ukulele players.
